8 Filipino women with sick children detained in Saudi

MANILA, Philippines – At least eight Filipino women detained at a police station in Saudi Arabia after a raid last month in Al Khobar are asking Philippine embassy officials to assist them with their sick children, according to a migrant workers' rights group.

“We endorsed their request for assistance to the Philippine embassy for its prompt action since its a serious concerns especially that the children of these arrested run away OFWs are sick,” said John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator.

“My baby has been unconscious during the raid due to sickness,” Monterona quoted one of the mothers as saying.

He said his group has already conveyed to the Phl Embassy-Assistance to the National Section (ANS) that the runaway overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been locked up inside a small room of the police station along with their children.

“They claimed that no assistance so far has been given to them by any PHL embassy staff aside from getting their names and the required 'papers' to transfer them at Saudi's Social welfare agency (SWA) in Dammam,” Monterona said in his letter to the embassy officials. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

Hi Mel,
It's always been like this our fellow kababayan always end up being abuse or killed and it seems that nobody is helping them. I can't say that the Philippine government did help 100% because it looks like I didn't see any of a good result. I am talking about before and now that is happening with Filipinas. I think it's about time to not to send OFW to this country and will see if they could stand not to have a Filipino service because we are loyal, helpful and we work hard unlike other worker from other country.
It break my heart to see fellow Filipinas being maltreated because I knew that they went to this country to work for a good cause, to help their family. I hope this will be solve immediately. Thanks!

Hi Kim,
I commiserate with you on your compassion for these Pinays but at this point in time our government is helpless since millions of Pinoys are without jobs. To prevent them from going to the Middle East because of these cases of abuse will be tantamount to depriving them of their chance to earn precious dollars for their family. In due time, when our economy improves and more factories and plants open in our country, the rate of unemployment will drastically go down and Pinoys need not go overseas to work. In the meantime, let us all pray for our hardworking OFWs around the world for the Lord to guard, protect and guide them in all circumstances. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi Toyin O,
Yes, most Filipinas suffer deprivation of rights in working in other countries especially the Middle East. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.
